The Royal Cat of Siam has been around for many centuries, but no one knows for sure exactly when the breed originated. According to historical accounts, these living works of art were treasured in their native land for hundreds of generations and were the companions of royalty and religious leaders.
The Siamese was described and depicted in The Cat-Book Poems, which confirms that the breed has existed in Siam (now Thailand) for many centuries. The manuscript was written in the city of Ayudha in Siam some time between 1350 when the city was founded and 1767 when the city was burned by Burmese invaders (the people, not the cat breed). The illustrations in the manuscript clearly show cats with pale coats and dark points on the ears, tails, faces and feet.
A Dog and his best Cat Friend
Oscar, an 18-month-old Lancashire Heeler, missed his best friend so much that he dug up the late cat’s grave and brought the body back into the house to be reunited with him.
The dog saw his owner dig a grave in the garden for Arthur, the 17-year-old family cat, and put him in the hole.
When Oscar’s owners woke up the next morning, they found Oscar curled up next to Arthur’s body in his bed.
Oscar and Arthur were the best of friends and were inseparable, and Arthur, who was a larger cat, even used to help Oscar onto the sofa.
Oscar’s owners said, “He had managed to climb out through the cat flap in the night, obviously with the intent to get Arthur back. Bearing in mind that Arthur was a huge cat, Oscar must have used all the strength he could muster. Then he pulled him into the basket and went to sleep next to him. Arthur’s coat was gleaming white. Oscar had obviously licked him clean. It must have taken him nearly all night.”
How do other cat owners introduce cats to dogs and kids? Advice?
I heard that it's important to give the new cat a shelter away from other pets and kids to retreat from. If aggression happens, it is important to take immediate action (clapping/ water squirting). Animals do not figure it out on their own and the more they fight the worse it will get.
Did you know that cat rentals — as in felines, not automobiles — are available in Japan?
Wouldn't that be a great idea with some of these cats!
However, instead of renting them a shelter could foster them from retirement homes and children hospitals where a little companionship could be welcomed.
Siamese are usually very affectionate and intelligent cats, renowned for their social nature. Many enjoy being with people and are sometimes described as "extroverts". Often they bond strongly to a single person. Some Siamese are extremely vocal, with a loud, low-pitched voice – known as "Meezer", from which they get one of their nicknames
