Many people think cats and dogs are natural enemies — which, of course, is a pretty ridiculous concept, since so many cats and dogs coexist in harmony.

But the relationship between a white bully breed named Molly and a litter of orphaned kittens has gone beyond harmony to motherly love.

When Elbert Bristow returned from a recent fishing trip, he accidentally ran over his cat, Kitty Kitty. She didn’t survive her injuries, and because she was nursing a litter of four kittens, Bristow wasn’t sure they would survive, either.

Molly was nursing a litter of pups of her own at the time the accident happened. She stepped in and saved the day for the six-week-old kittens.

Now the little fuzzballs visit Molly’s milk bar several times a day to get their fill. The kittens even follow Molly around as if she were their biological mother.

Bristow has kept the puppies separated from Molly to give the kittens a chance to nurse without fighting with the much larger pups. “I’ve had dogs all my life,” he says. “I’ve trained bird dogs and coon dogs, but this is the first time I’ve ever had a dog take a litter of kittens.”

Once the pups and kittens are ready to go to new homes, Bristow plans to give away all but one of each.

Maybe now that Bristow’s dog has found fame as a wonderful foster mom, some kind soul will come forward and encourage Bristow to get his animals spayed and neutered, too.
