Since I started working for Leashline News, I’ve been thinking a lot about how I got to this point in my career. Most people would say I never had a chance. My story didn’t start off so pretty. I ended up at an animal shelter in South Los Angeles when I was 6 months old. I had been run over and was pretty sick. A rescue group called Best Friends pulled me from the medical lab there, and eventually I was adopted by my Mom.
Not all my friends were so lucky. Today there are hundreds of dogs and cats that end up the South Los Angeles shelter monthly. The place is over-flowing with beautiful pups and cats of all shapes and sizes, but many never make it out alive. I’ve been there, so I know what it’s like to sit in a cage hoping someone will pick you. The cement is hard and cold, and the noise can be really loud. We don’t get to walk on the grass either because there are simply too many dogs to walk. The shelter workers are awesome and help as much as they can, but they your need help.
There is one group called Lu Parker Project that is helping. They come to the shelter and take pictures of my fellow canines and kitties in hopes of sharing their pictures to thousands of people. They tell me it’s working! When you visit the shelter, be sure to check out their photo board. The pictures are amazing! Here’s their blog.
My friends at the shelter tell me they need supplies like newspapers, blankets, towels, and dog treats. The newspaper is used in the cat cages, and the blankets and towels (used) can make sleeping so much better for everyone.
Remember there are 6 city shelters in Los Angeles. You can find out more about volunteering and the locations by visiting LA Animal Services
And remember to spread the word: Don’t shop, ADOPT!

Nice story Monkey. It's so true…there are plenty of adoptable dogs just waiting for a good home. Even if you're not in a position to take on a pet, your donations are much needed and always welcomed.
