It still amazes me how cruel humans can be. While I lived in the animal shelter many years ago, I heard stories from my canine friends about abuse and neglect. It has always made me very sad and of course angry.
I just read today about another horrifying case of animal abuse. This incident happened in Arizona. Rescuers there found a little puppy in a plastic bag. His eyes had been gouged out and he was starving. Doctors named the little minature pinscher Andre. I sure wish I could meet him and say hi! He is one lucky guy to have so many wonderful humans caring for him. He will make it, but thousands more never will. Their cases of abuse will never be told.
If we look at the numbers, they are quite staggering. According to The Humane Society of the United States, 65% of reported animal cruelty cases involve dogs. The HSUS estimates that nearly one million animals are abused or killed in connection with domestic violence. In another study, 71% of domestic violence victims report their abuser also targeted their animal as a form of revenge.
This has to stop. Let’s spread the word to keep an eye out for all our fellow furry friends. If you suspect or see animal abuse, please contact your local police.
